st. patrick's day!

we made a green rice crispy shamrock...
played tic-tac-toe...
made funny st. patrick's day-themed sentences...
had green applesauce and rice milk...
after talking about the blarney stone in ireland i showed sonny and fiona that i had my own "real" blarney stone. i explained that kissing the stone gives you good luck so the kids took turns giving it multiple kisses... again and again throughout the entire day!
later we made our own blarney stones...
the park was a lot of fun- we had a hunt for gold coins! the tiny radders were at the park as well so they joined in. it was a great day!

learning about india...

i love it when the kids think of something that never occurred to me- fiona stuck a craft jewel on her forehead and viola! a bindi!
i gave each of the girls a henna tattoo...
we went to the grocery store to buy the ingredients for our spice cookies. each of the kids were assigned an ingredient to find... i suggested asking for help and they did!
the recipe called for many different spices like cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and dried mustard so the girls took turns smelling and describing each.
i left the room for about 10 seconds and when i returned this is how fiona looked... busted!

the girls took turns having their hands traced. they noticed that by moving the hand prints around we would have a left and right hand!
we decorated the hands with our henna ink (aka black gel icing) and brought them to underwood for a picnic!
i think talking about india made everyone miss theo more- they all wanted to write him a letter!

celebrating color...

we took advantage of having an all girl class and created a beauty parlor and bow shop!
the girls painted their faces...
as a continuation of our own holi, or festival of color, we made a color graph and color wheel (on cupcakes!).
we experimented making different colors with turmeric (for yellow), cranberry juice (for pink) and blueberry juice for purple but weren't very successful- in the end we had to use regular food dye...
