celebrating the chinese new year...

and some red envelopes for good luck...

we also made fortune cookies- not the easiest project with four excited children, but fun nonetheless!

what's more difficult than making fortune cookies with kids? trying to take photos of the process!

and lastly, our chinese dragon dance!

our trip to the moon...

we made a spaceship and took a trip to the moon!

i put on some brian eno to set the atmosphere, turned off the lights and had the kids look for moon dust with their flashlights. they were instructed to collect samples to bring back to earth for further examination...

mia and beckett labeling their samples...

who knew moon dust could be used as an art medium?

making marionettes...

the kids measured pieces of cardboard and string...

(this photo of coco will always make me smile- the way she's multi tasking cracks me up...)

added some final touches...

et voilĂ !

our trip to the grand army plaza library...

the kids recognized a lot of the artwork at the drawn in brooklyn exhibition (which consisted exclusively of children's book illustrations). it was very exciting!

channeling frida kahlo and diego rivera...

we read frida and diego, afterwards creating a mural of our own. we used bright colors, inspired by frida and even made our own platform (aka a chair on top of a table- and me holding onto each child as they painted) like diego!

amazing!

family tree time!

we started by making prototypes of our family trees...

next came laying down the foundation...

 and lastly, adding family names!

i love this photo!
