food dye + corn starch + water = sidewalk paint!

we experimented how much water/cornstarch was needed to make the best paint.
then it evolved to a study on color mixing...
sonny discovered that by adding more cornstarch than water he could make a gooey mixture...

hardly anyone actually painted but the results were far better than what i had imagined!

winter olympics!

our olympic flags...
we made up our own winter olympic games.
we had different obstacle courses and races. what i loved the best was hearing the kids happily shout out "it's a tie!".
the aftermath of playing outside on a snowy day...
playing olympic bingo with fruit loops...
look at these paintings! it's always so inspiring to watch the kids paint. so expressive and fearless! if you look close you can watch the evolution of coco's painting...

yellow + blue = green!

i put yellow and blue on opposite sides of a piece of paper and had the kids use their paintbrushes to make a new color- green! afterwards we added a piece of text that read "yellow + blue = green",  introducing math symbols that they can read. we also mixed paint in baggies and had fun making making different shapes and letters with our fingers. later i cut a hole in the baggies and the kids used the paint to color our dinosaur mural!

our dinosaur ended up being a great ice breaker for mia's first day at school!
